Skull Rosary, Late 16th Century, Spain
(shown above with bone skulls beads and molded acrylic bicone beads)
(shown above with pewter skulls beads and precious metal-plated bicone beads)
A replication of a late-16th Century rosary currently located in Spain and thought to have originated in Mexico, this single-line paternoster features your choice of 8mm cast pewter skulls or 10-12mm carved bone skull beads, 10mm ornamental bicone beads (available in either bali-style precious metal or corrugated metalized molded acrylic), and small metal spacer beads, all hand-wired together to create a durable strand that will last you
for years to come.
This stunning rosary is finished on one end with a either a continuous silver-tone ring that has a 17mm opening or a 15mm thicker gold- or silver-plated band with a twisted design. The opposite end is completed by a precious metal-plated ornate stamping with pendants made from a delicate plated 13mm crosslet and corrugated and matching beads.
Choose either the replication piece pictured above with 7 ave skull beads, or opt for an even decade of 10 ave skulls. Additional decades are available - email me for prices per decade.

Based on the short one-decade rosaries seen in period paintings, this single-line paternoster features ten 10mm carved bone "melon" ave beads and two gorgeous 16x8mm oblong carved bone gaud beads, double-strung on 100% silk ribbon and finished off with matching gold-trimmed silken tassels at each end (plain red rayon tassels in ruby as shown in top photo above are available by request, with limited quantities available).
This simple and elegant rosary measures roughly 12" in length from end to end for one decade, including 1.5" of slack (it will be shorter when you receive it and will lengthen with use as the silk eases). Each additional decade you choose will add roughly 4" to the overall length of the rosary.
More decades and/or other materials are available for your ave beads - contact me with your material choice (glass beads, pearls, or semi-precious stone beads) for a price per decade.
Made with 8mm faceted glass gaud beads and 6mm round glass pearl ave beads, connected to a 25x18mm acrylic cabochon stone, and featuring a large 3" jeweled cross.
Wondering what to get that special bride-to-be?
Look no further, as these rosaries are the perfect "something new" gift!
For those who prefer to live in modern times, here is a more modern rosary to suit your tastes. This is the rosary design that is commonly seen today, having five decades forming a loop with a dainty Virgin Mary medal at the center, from which a "tail" with cross decends.
The piece is made of hand-wired links containing 6mm ave glass beads and gaud sections made with 10mm glass beads surrounded by metal bead caps and 2mm glass rocaille/seed beads (shown above with crystal AB aves and gauds, and topaz rocailles). With the exception of the smooth round pearls, all beads used will have a fire-polished faceted finish.
Semi-precious stone beads, Celestial Crystal, and/or Swarovski Austrian crystal beads are also available for your rosary's beads - contact me with your preference in materials to obtain a price for your piece.
